No you do not have to set yourself up as a Trader, we have an other income section in our IR3 returns which includes sales of shares as a business or with the sole purpose of making a profit as your intention at purchase time. An individual taxpayer who is not self employed would need to file an IR3 in order to declare profits or claim losses just like any individual taxpayer who has a rental property who is not self employed does.
