what is the point?

The serial doom and gloom posters have been busy this week. They have continued to attack anything that portrays property in a positive light, then almost in the same breath presented us with a set of rubbery numbers that are no better than the numbers presented by the "real estate vested" interests that they despise. Then we have the "prophets" predicting the beginning of the end from Qtr 1 2010 - what a laugh!

The real question is what is the point? Why spend so much time putting down an investment that has no interest or value for your investment strategy at this point in time? It seems rather pointless to me, and some of you uber bears spend an inordinate amount of time posting - its like popping into a particular share's thread and just stating the share is rubbish. The only thing to be gained is that if things do go bad then all of these negative posters just pop back in to say told you so (happens time and time again on the share forums), although you will never hear from them if things go really well or they will come up with some other excuse why things will come crashing down.

Time to accept reality the world has changed:
    1) Dual income households are the norm; and
    2) Not everyone will own property.

The housing market is not all the same - the vast majority do not buy a median price house on a median wage. To say the whole housing market is a gross exaggeration. Each area of housing has its own properties, and each house is unique again with its own properties. To say all housing is the same and will behave the same only illustrates the lack of understanding of the housing market - it is like saying because you know how the overall share market is going you know exactly what share x will do. Sure some areas of housing/specific houses will and has dropped 40%, some will continue to grow and others will stagnate - but the market is not all the same!

Time to grow up guys leave the investment in housing to the ones that are interested in investing now and discussing their investment with other interested parties. If the market falls it falls or if it grows it grows but nothing you or I or anyone else on this forum is going to change that. For long term investors if it falls all it means is that we increase our holdings much quicker, if it grows then all the ones continuously waiting for the fall that may never happen just get further away from their ownership goal.
