I wouldn't say the renewing of the spirit in your mind is referring to the holy spirit, it's sounds more like your own spirit. Obviously though, if you truly connect to God, your mind should renew or begin to.
By reason of him being the creator - Now you make the mind boggle? You say Christ is the word, the word is what and how things were created, well predominantly, so there in lies a problem. Oh but you say, the word didn't create despite these words, Let there be light, By the word of the Lord were the heavens made etc etc.
