Sonic is hurting in terms of competition as NZ contract demonstrates just how cutthroat and competitive pathology market is. This is also with Sonic facing competition from Healthscopes entrance into the Tasmanian market which Sonic previously had a monopoly over. The court cases against Healthscope (Symbion and one in Tassie where Sonic supposedly reported Healthscope) is more indicative of how aggressive competition is.

My advice is to get hell out of these stocks and wait for reporting that indicates they are back on even keel. I am beginning to think Healthscope might be showing signs of turning things around in a tightly contested market but no way I would invest my money in presently - but not to say after reporting in August and reassessing where it is at I might not then consider it as it has fallen far and does have quality assets.

But until then stay clear of health stocks such as Sonic, healthscope and Symbion.
