Yes they should , but it won't happen for a good reason.
Australia is proud of its free press, but with that freedom goes responsibility. There is an invisible line and expectation that no news organisation should cross. Most people know instinctively where the line is.
The ABC has raced across this line. But because the line is invisible it is not defined. Up to now, the government has relied on the integrity of news organisations to respect our wonderful way of life, and standards. Not to do anything that would trash them. Because once trashed there is no going back.
So the ABC will get away with it, and who knows where this will end up. The ABC is a serious enemy to our way of life. Way past party politics. This is very serious and terrifying stuff. Think about it. The government will become much less transparent now, to our great cost.
What has been trashed is respect for us, you, me, our unique easy-going friendly attitude.
