years ago, was told by a so-called church (not the "church" that, the suppose-ed, jesus was referring to) elder that the eye of the needle was an historical gate.

be careful with the phrase "mere faith", because faith is a sliding scale, from blind faith, to rock-soild 100% dependable faith.
your comment is example of the former
it would have being better to use the term, "blind faith".

and also, for the sake of 'others', ddzxing should nearly no doubt, be knowing that there is no such thing as a Xtian - such a thing is an impossibility - therefore a conceptual dependently-arisen Xtian can never enter heaven.
unless, of course, if, the word Xtian is seen as to be referring to non-Xtian (if you know what 'i' mean)

If, while he is dwelling by means of this [enlightened] dwelling, his mind inclines to speaking, he resolves that 'I will not engage in talk that is base, vulgar, common, ignoble, unbeneficial, that does not lead to disenchantment, dispassion, cessation, calm, direct knowledge, self-awakening, or Unbinding — i.e...tales of the dead...the creation of the world & of the sea...talk of whether things exist or not.' In this way he is alert there. (MN 122)

...one sees the origination of the world as it actually is with right discernment, 'non-existence' with reference to the world does not occur to one. When one sees the cessation of the world as it actually is with right discernment, 'existence' with reference to the world does not occur to one. (SN 12.15)

Imasmim sati idam hoti
When this exists, this naturally exists;

Imassuppada idam uppajjati
Due to the arising of this, this consequently arises.

Imasmim asati idam na hoti
When this does not exist, this naturally does not exist;

Imassa nirodha idam nirujjhati
Due to the ending of this, this consequently ends.

for those wondering what is being discussed here, Buddha taught something about 'dependently-arisen -suffering', which is about how suffering arises dependently on ignorance & craving

but Sarco erroneously believes suffering occurs due to dependently-arisen-labels, such as 'dog', 'moon', 'banana', Xian', etc
