Regarding the status of high-end goods you are spot on. I read somewhere that the Chinese are trying to promote the "support your own country; buy local goods thing" which of course would mean it would be very frowned upon to pour Grange at your dinner party rather than a home-produced wine
I do NOT want to get political but also totally agree the Chinese Government could promote an anti-Australian sentiment which, as you say, would hurt tourism, universities etc a lot more then TWE
