MinePac - you have ignored the fact that even without the patents it would take Samsung more than a number of years to re-engineer the chip, if ever (as stated by Fred Bart)

You have also ignored the huge market outside Apple, total market is 17-20billion chips of which AKP is seeking a market penetration of around 15%. Multiply that by a profit per chip of at least one USD and you can see how some of these valuations come about. Fred has already said that he would not sell for less than $10B - that's the starting point.

  

As one poster said though, lets not get ahead of ourselves, a working chip is required first.
