Relgion in the form you are talking about igIlug is about POWER and pure hate.
Ignorance breeds hate . When people have a close relationship with each other even from different "religious groups " barriers can break down. Sadly that hardly ever happens on the world stage.
Extremist leaders foster this hate to their followers because they want power and domination over territory whether geographical or political.
We have had a bit in our own politics in the last few years on a much smaller scale.
All people follow some belief system. We don't find that palatable as we think we are all individuals.
Faith and religion are opposite poles.
Religion KNOWS it is right and sets out to prove it.They want domination and they want it NOW.
