I have heard that as of Monday, the ASX has temporarily (until further notice that is), frozen the practice of naked shorting, and followed suit applied by other world regulators.
I think it was, because of what had happened to Macquarie Bank, and that it was shorted real badly, dropping it's shares value by about 20% in one hit, the other day.
It may bring some sense back into the market and lay the foundation for a fairer level playing field in the future.
One can only hope, anyway.
