One way that it's less than ideal is when tax and interest rate rises come into it. Even though, with the full franking, it's currently better to have PL8 dividends rather than hold cash at the moment, if the rate on the offset account increases and I get into a higher tax bracket, that differential narrows significantly. There are also other means tested subsidies/rebates that encourage one to reduyce taxable income rather than try to max out net income.I guess there are other ways to do this, like negative gearing or voluntary super contributions.
My average price is now well over $1 as I have kept topping up in small doses, but there is still room to move. I am definitely not inclined to keep piling in if it gets above $1.2, as the yield is starting to fall off. I can't see divvies going up hugely too quickly in the future but it's good for now. If I had my time again I would have got in a lot harder into PL8 below $1 instead of trying to pick all these other pandemic winner stocks, most of which have done pretty poorly.
