I picked it as an experiment against holding cash. I am nowhere near retirement (early 30s) but have an offset account on part of my home loan and the yields on this are much higher than the variable rate from the bank, even when considering tax. Monthly dividends mean that I get a lot of the value back onto the offset. It is currently a tiny part of my portfolio (5%) and I am trickling more in occasionally. Given the yield of PL8 against the current SP, it seems pretty capped out and in my view the SP won't go far north of $1.2 unless the dividends are increasing. For me it's still better than money in the bank and even better now given that I bought below $1.0.
Not sure if this is a stupid strategy or not, so I am just dabbling for now.
