this is a very good point (not so much the retail holder makeup as those guys are not making the decisions, they are just going for the ride of whatever the managers decide).
The short position is a real worry... especially if one considers that one or two major holders of stock are probably hedging their position with shorts so their ownership may be almost negligible.
Holding shorts is an easy way for major stakeholders in a company to basically sell without causing an SP crash.
