If it is an international energy firm, I see the acquisition as having no deterrance to the predator continuing to accumulate.

If the predator is just looking to acquire a key stake they would probably see the benefits of this new asset and continue to accumulate.

If you are suggesting that there is not a predator on the scene, then ask yourself the following questions:

why was the share price kept at around $1 for so long with the appearance of large sellers higher up the tree?
why has the volume suddenly increased in the last week?
why did the chairman see it necessary to place $ values on the assets of the company in his update released last week?
why did the chairman see it necessary to release that update so urgently, given that another announcement was to be released the following day and then a trading halt ahead of a further announcement?
