Burger, The maximum capital i would be prepared to lose in any trade would 2% total trading capital per trade which is quite standard rule of thumb.
Stop loss techniques you could explore:
2x ATR
3x ATR
CBL- Daryl guppy technique
Chart based support
I always tie stop losses in with risk/reward ratios and would not trade anything less than 2.
