Perhaps you need to do some walking over the bridge from the Toorak set to see a very vibrant multicultural community full of cafes shops and of course the Saturday market as AP pointed out. I also lived there around 1988 before i got married. Having children obviously meant moving to a differnt location as Richmond, similar to St Kilda and Fitzroy is very much a hub for single professionals who like to be close to the city, parks, night clubs, cafes, theatre and the arts and just about everything else that turns them on. That is why Richmond commands big dollars for a small block not much bigger than a postage stamp. Well, maybe a bit of exageration.
