I woudn't be too harsh on him it seems to be the way of investing these days. Just look at cryptocurrency where stupid "meme" coins are making people a lot of money with their gimmicks.
Like or not peoples attitudes to investing are changing and it seems valid reasons are no longer required when making a decision to invest into something.
