TEN thousand Queensland jobs have been jeopardised in just two days.
State Development Minister Anthony Lynham yesterday quashed a $7.5 billion cruise ship terminal and resort proposed for Wavebreak Island on the Gold Coast, which its backer claimed would create 5000 jobs.
It follows the Sunshine Coast Regional Council’s rejection of a residential development pegged to create 4000 jobs, and Infrastructure and Planning Minister Jackie Trad calling in the $900 million Cedar Woods development for reassessment. It was expected to create 1000 construction jobs.
Dr Lynham defended the move to suspend the Gold Coast development as it was an election promise to protect the Broadwater.
He said the consortium behind the project would be given an opportunity to develop it elsewhere in the state.
