I think they should care - as directors they are supposed to care (there's a duty of care) and they did invite questions in their correspondence to shareholders.
In my opinion, shareholders as a class, like voters as a class, possibly both end up getting the representatives/directors that, as a class, we deserve. Some voters like some shareholders may deserve better than they get. Those that engage with the policy discussion.
There are a lot of shareholders with small shareholdings (when less than 5% is a small shareholding) - well over 75% - but many of them may be discouraged from asking questions or thinking they have a chance. Can they really believe the annual report was a matter for being pleased and proud?
If small shareholders do nothing they are likely to see annual reports where pleased and proud keep getting mentioned when the share price is trending to the contrary.
