Never let facts get in the way of a good story; seems to be the message of this thread. I am a long term BHP holder and would agree it's a great company but....
Copper prices have not improved in fact they're down over 12.3%in the last month; Base metals (OK Al and Zn also) is not small fish, it was the largest EBIT earner in 2006 for BHP (read the annual report).
As for housing in the US new housing permits (this is what drives copper use in the US) are down 31% for the last 10 mths, down 3.1% in November and new housing starts for November were up 19% after a 26% decline in October. These figures are notorious for high volatility.
Do your homework, know your company.
