I prefer to get to know a few and have about 20 that I monitor, some of which I haven't been in for a few months like financials.
At the moment I've got more funds in mining and infrastructure, with some biotech, green and property mixed in. As the market gets restored I'll be changing the mix. I keep track of the mix so that there's a reasonable balance across sectors, but that doesn't mean an equal balance.
I've also had more in the somewhat riskier end of the market since late last year because I figured that the biggest losers will also probably be the earliest gainers. So far so good, but that will also change over time. More recently I've been switching to undervalued less risky stocks as I find them. In a few cases the companies themselves have successfully reduced the risk to more acceptable levels, with the market cap yet to catch up (IMO).
