browndog: everything you have said about Comsec has happened to me and worse. A few weeks ago I was holding 500 ANZ and 1000 MQG with Comsec..I sold the MQG and then 2 days later they tried to debit my account for $14000 which wasn't in there. The bank charged me $50 and so did Comsec. The MQG were worth $28000 and the ANZ $7000. Since I sold the MQG I had no idea what was going on. When I rang them I was told that they still try and debit your account for any outstanding amounts regardless of whether you sell anything in the meantime. Talk about a rort. So I made sure some money was in the account in case they tried to do it again despite the fact that they owed me money..

Three days later I get a call from their credit collection department demanding to know when I was going to pay them $8000...Eventually I had to walk the guy through the buys and sells on my account before he worked out that they owed me money from the sale of the MQG!! It took over a week for them to put that money in my account.

Basically from the moment I sold the MQG until the money hit my account I had $28000 less to trade with..

I will never use them again
