I heard one Democrat effectively calling the Republicans cry-babies over that suggestion by offering to be real nice to them if they'll pass the law.

If they did vote it down because their feelings were hurt it's hard to believe they'd admit it. However, I just heard McCain say that the Democrats were "unnecessarily partisan", which I can't interpret any way except that the Republicans were pissed off with Pelosi's speech.
