Interesting that Cyprus is the closest (and far safer to get to) point for the refugees (from Turkey) - though Turkey itself could be classified nearest "safe" harbour (though its stop-gap accommodation facilities are apparently a mess - the reason so many Syrians keep going toward mainland Europe).

However, given that the (Syrian) refugees have taken far greater risks to travel further than Cyprus for example (forgetting its size), one must question their desperation and motives.

Cyprus does not recognise family resettlement programs for refugees - I wonder whether this is a factor in these refugees picking and choosing their preferred destination (perhaps a place they can hide or merge without identification) rather than choosing the nearest safe harbour?

Apart from all of this, from the looks of the age and mentality of many of the males who dominate the hordes, who are they and I wonder whether their intention would be to ultimately settle and bring other family members, or whether they have just found a good opportunity to exit a region and religion, thinking only about themselves and where the madness of their religion has left a massive indelible scar on their minds and bodies? If the latter and looking at the trouble many are causing, Europe really is copping the absolute dregs. Further, given that so many (many quote up to a million or so) are unknown and unclassified by any authorities, this really does spell the end for Europe as we know it.

Anticipate many young Europeans considering their own Refugee status not too far down the track as they consider their own futures...an opportunity for Australia to offer more skilled refugee places and attract some European scientific/professional minds that would bolster our own skill set?
