    Maybe the answer lies in the fact that most western politicians are compromised
    That's why they are chosen
    Once you are compromised - you no longer serve the people you represent - but the people who have compromised you.

    Some call it blackmail.

    May explain why the politicians no longer represent the people's will anymore - but the will's of only a very few that may benefit from their decisions.
