Build three pipelines from the northwest,north and north east to harvest the wet season deluges. Build reservoirs along the way,and irrigate,and bring back to life,the land that needs it. We could green up a fair bit of the interior,maybe going on Peter Andrews principles.
Rudd could've put the stimulus toward a project like this that would have a long term benefit for everyone in this country. The water could be pumped by means of solar or geo thermal plants along the way. Untold jobs would be created,building it, and as a result. A huge food bowl could possibly come out of it,with certainty for all.
Then there'd be room for refugees......like the italians etc building the snowy scheme. And the more green there is the cooler it becomes....no idea why noones put the idea forward seriously enough to give it some momentum.....would be keen to hear the pro's and cons on that idea if anyones got some knowledge or ideas.
