Comments here on the Aged Pension remind me of the fish in a bowl metaphor
with most unable to see beyond the immediate environment.
The proposed Aged Pension cuts timed for 2017 are estimated to save the Government $800 mil/year.
The obvious solution is to enforce the multinational company tax enforcement regime rather than
gyp aged pensioners by $11 a week.
Both Hockey and Shorten have estimated that a clamp down on multinationals
would yield $2 billion a year which is 2 and a half times the cost of keeping the Aged pension as is.
Does this sound fair.? Obviously it does but Lib Drys and small government
ideologues on this board seem to think otherwise.
Joe Hockey has welshedon his promise of last December to pursue these
tax 'minimising" multinationals following his party room meeting a week later.
Presumably the Lib fundraisers pointed out to him who the Liberal backers are.
Also, we spend $2.5 billion a year on Foreign Aid of which $620 million goes to Indonesia.
Is this intelligent seeing that this $2.5 billion is coming from the Credit Card
and that Indonesia is our biggest security threat?
Is it fair to cut the Aged pension by $11 a week in 2017 when we pay tyrannical regimes
$2.5 billion a year.?
In the early 1960s the Government levied an extra 1% on our personal tax to
account for the aged pension but like the 1.5% medicare levy, this has been
incorporated into general revenue and the social contract which went with it
seems to be forgotten also.
Our Aged Pensioners post WW11 made Australia a fair and equitable society
and now the selfish social media addicts express selfishness under the anonymity
of this medium. Perhaps they should air these penny pinching ideas at their
parents or grandparents (if they have any)Sunday Roast.
The film "Marigold Hotel 2" had a relevant line:
"It is admirable for a person to plant a tree in full knowledge that he/she
will never benefit from its shade'
Post WW2, the now Aussie aged pensioners have planted "Forrests"
but Gen X 7 Gen Y are simply too selfish to recognise that.
Todays aged pensioners did not have the opportunity of a free or partially free
university education(post Whitlam) but we paid for that of others through out taxes
and we are still paying!
