I had a similar experience many years ago with a female friend and it was difficult, because we both belonged to the same group of friends, some of whom thought it was rather funny. I doubt that the police would be interested in such a situation.

I had to be brutal and frank, but it took while until it finally sunk in that I was going out with someone else and was never going back. There is no chance you can remain a friend with this type of (clinging) person as she will interpret messages to suit her belief in 'your love' for her.
