misty....this is one whole area I've never bothered to read up on....I will certainly do so now as this issue is inevitable.

After my reading yesteday, my understanding is that the two countries are entirely separate/Australia is entirely independent....and the GG only represents the Queen in his responsibility to fulfill the requirements of the Coronation Oath...and any executive power he exercises is limited only to the principles of government contained in that oath.

As Briter suggested, Howards Republican proposal a few years ago contained quite an erosion of these basic principles of government/increase in the power of the PM....little weasel!
