I love wading out in the surf to fish. My best trip ever was to Surfside Beach on the Texas coast a few years ago. The wind had consistently been out of the SE at 5 mph for a few days in July. This brought oxygenated water the colour and turbidity of limeade all the way to shore. I found a spot at dawn, where the sandbars were clearly delineated by the breaking waves. Typically there are 3 sandbars (on the Texas coast) with a “gut” between each as you wade out. I fished into the gut between the 2nd and 3rd sandbar. I limited out on speckled trout and Spanish mackerel, caught a few flounder, one nice size redfish and a few delicious Florida Pompano. It was awesome (canoe reviews). I started by using live shrimp under a Mansfield mauler and eventually had fun testing out various artificials. They were hitting everything. (I immediately put fish in ice as I catch them, important tip.).
