In terms of material wealth, I would suggest Socialists do indeed have a scarcity mentality and have a zero-sum outlook. Not surprising really, given that it is borne from Marx, at a time when Capitalism and "progress" was arguably bringing prosperity to the elites, and misery to the rest.

Material progress however is about much more than slicing the pie into more, equal pieces.
