I dont think that they have been solved as such. "A more consistent end product" says to me a better product than before but doesnt say the product is necessarily up to scratch. I would assume that the filter would be being installed to 'refine the material' much more than it currently can be. I also assume that the efficiency they are referring to will be acheieved once they have to stop putting the material through the plant more than once.
Thats just how I read it and my interpretation.
