    Hi gannet54
    That was interesting timing .
MUFG released a ‘ceasing to be substantial holder’ notice four minutes after my post!
    [see it here].
That says its’ selling to under 5% happened on December 7 and it once again lists how many shares it bought and sold that day to drop under the declaration minimum.

A total of 2,637,187 was sold on 07/12/20 according to Commsec sales history, and it was was the last day of trading for IGO, so even without counting how many it sold I doubt it left the register.

But I wish I knew more about shorting.
All the trades on Monday were through ‘an entity controlled by Morgan Stanley’ .
In 2008 Mitsubishi bought 20% of Morgan Stanley [ref]

And that last announcement says around six million shares were also returned to an entity controlled by Morgan Stanley on Monday?
This was the entity I had presumed was loaning shares to other MUFG entities to short ?

Can someone with more knowledge please explain how this all fits together?

    cheers
