High speed rail is a result of scales of economy. Mass dense population in small land sizes where it can be paid off.
Note. I was on the high speed rail from Kyoto to Tokyo, 450 kms, 2hr 4 mins
But, every time we entered a tunnel, the train dropped to 180km / hr because a train hitting a wall of air at 300km/hr is like hitting a brick wall.
The tunnels are twice the diameter of a normal train tunnel for this simple reason.
The rail must have protected easements as an object travelling that fast has no warning and poses a risk to life and cattle
They work very well when moving large population over shorter distances which is not Australia.
And for eff sake, don't you think for one moment every egghead in Australian Universities faculties have done their research on this!
