Just as an aside, the municipality also gets a significant improvement in the rate of traffic accidents regardless of the healthy profits. Although speeding is always an issue with traffic enforcement it seems that crashing red lights is the biggest cause of accidents.

Another benefit for the local enforcement agency (police) is that they can access every camera over the internet which allows them to quickly scan the city roads for traffic snarl ups or assess accidents etc. I have seen a company demonstration of this and it is an impressive feature that other vendors do not seem to have available in their systems.
