before standard medicare rebates - one eye cost $6,500 ..

who knows and who cares .. the end result was amazing ..

frugal watso (and 100% self funded retiree) was only too happy to pay ..

the largest part of the cost was the hospital cost .. ie about $4,500

the eye surgeon and the anaesthetist cost about $2,000 , in total, .. even though watso offered to drink a cheap bottle of whisky - and bypass the $500 cost of the anaesthetist ..

for what it is worth - but watso had a bridge (teeth) done when overseas .. and it cost 10% of what the dental cost would have cost locally .. sadly, watso had no reason to be overseas when he needed eye surgery - and simply had to pay the local fees... but still good value - and better than going blind
