    ape, you can go one more step and say what's the real cost of NOT doing it? However, the same arguments can be applied to many other important if not more important infrastructures, such as hospitals, roads, public transport, airports, seaports, etc. The cost of implementing any infrastructure must be analysed, and they will be. Rudd said so. It will take at least the rest of this year to figure all this out. Let's wait and see. Perhaps we should take the view that it doesn't matter what the costs is. In that case, Rudd should say so and go on to say he will cap the cost to the consumer to make it more viable for them. The problem with that is the consumer will still have to pay through higher taxes and interest rates, and/or reduction of other services.

    Please don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of FTH. I'm also in favour of an autobahn between Newcastle and Woolongong.
