Fortescue Metals Group Ltd (“Fortescue”) advises that the vessel grounded in
the shipping channel at Port Hedland has been refloated and is now being
escorted out of the channel on the high tide.
Following a concerted effort by all parties involved and with the assistance of
a large number of tugs, the Port Hedland Port Authority arranged the
successful refloating of the MV Iron King.
As advised earlier there were no injuries sustained in the grounding and there
has been no known hydrocarbon releases.
A full assessment of the ship’s structure will be made once the ship is clear of
the channel. The responsibility for the costs of the refloating operation plus
any charges for ship repairs will be borne by the ship’s owner.
Given the quick response and successful team effort to rectify the problem,
there has been minimal disruption to port activities.
