    the first thing you need to do is get yourself into a guitar shop and play all the guitars that appeal to you.

    I reckon the statocaster would be an excellent choice, I sold one only last year and I regret it every day. Having said that, I have a gorgeous telecaster and an es335, they too are good, but the strat has a tone all on its own. With the dollar being what it is now the American guitars are a good buy. I found the les paul to be too heavy, a bitch of a guitar that was literally a pain in the neck.

    For an amplifier try something with two 10 or 12 inch speakers.
