The way I read it is that their equipment is tuned to detect gold but not other PGMs at this point in time. So in a 'complex ore' they can only assay the gold component at this stage.
Also, the photodiode detectors are measuring the energies of individual gamma photons so the constructive destructive argument doesnt hold. It would be a problem for an optical spectroscopy system however providing the wave sources were coherent.
