I assume you are referring to an expected replacement of the entire ICE fleet with EVs
either through government stimulus or regulation to stimulate consumer demand over
and above the natural uptake through corporate advertising trading on the assumed
consumer demand for less polluting transport.
This presumes that the costs of the transitiion are not greater than the costs of doing
nothing though I have yet to see a thorough cost/benefit analysis of all factors.
The fact that there is overwhelming government support for new types of community
transport at whatever additional cost to individuals does not automatically guarantee
public support for forced costly priority choices, enforced by governments.
Quieter maybe, but I did not enjoy being nearly run over when I did not hear an
approaching EV, compounded by a hearing issue. Not that I favour unneeded
noise but AI could have sounded a warning, at some cost to the manufacturer.
Changing IPhone models are a classic example of wasteful manufacturing
and I have yet to be convinced that the motives of vehicle makers
are as pure as the driven snow.
So yes to less pollution ... but no to corporate greed.
When people say things are inevitable I wonder whether they have
a genuine interest in the most economical consumer solutions.
Volkswagen did the rigtht thing as did Henry Ford
Consumers are being conned into unnecessary and unwanted luxury.
In that context PLS has a great role to play and I am a loyal supporter.
I remain highly doubtful of claims that future costly overkill is inevitable,
in the client industries selling unneeded luxuries to people in parts of the
world where per capita GDP is declining, of which Australia is already one.
Kidding ourselves that unplanned immigration growth is a substitute for real
growth is folly. I am all for prosperity based on immigration but the loud anti
immigrant Trumpery of the USA will be a false god if it is transferred here.
Bring me your poor, your huddled masses was the basis for Americian
growth and prosperity, as immigrants from war torn Europe flooded in.
The same remains true there and here, where housing has been so
grossly underfunded that house price and rent extortion
are rampant. There is nothing inevitable about
housing shortages or high priced EVs and
the market needs to check and correct
"inevitability" of housing shortages.
When priorities are right prosperity follows.
When prioriities are wrong true prosperity goes to the dogs.
I don't understand the hyped worship of pop stars when medical
facilities and housing are in so much need, in so many parts
of the so-called civilised world, let alone areas of dire
poverty and conflict that the "Great Powers" ignore.
