It's a complex story with many moving parts
you are probably right, those cars in those graveyards were unsaleable and new cars will get sold
But still the fact remains more cars where produced than were needed.
So you had all these car makers wanting lithium batteries before who wanted to ramp up production and go into the business but have since gone broke and no longer require these batteries
This may be reflected in less demand for lithium and a lower lithium price.
