in relation to the post from FThis, the ASX is not a regulator at all. under the memorandum of agreement between the ASX and ASIC, the ASX does not "regulate" anything, they are only obliged by the Corporations act to 'superivise and monitor' the market. They have no power to investigate or prosecute any illegal activity that occurs in the market. They only collect information which is then passed on to ASIC who then apply the law and decide whether to further invesigations and on that basis make a decision as to whether the case against the wrong doer is strong enough for a conviction.

but i still agree that bot trading can destroy share prices however it can also be difficult to spot the difference between bot trading and an iceberg order coming through....
