The State Government has embraced mining as one of its key pillars, along with defence. It is unashamedly pro-mining, and even pro-uranium thanks to the enormous prosperity the Roxby Downs project offers.

It has renewed Marathon's licence to explore, after the company was suspended from drilling in 2008 for illegally dumping plastic bags of mine cuttings.

Mineral Resources Development Minister Tom Koutsantonis says the Government had a legal obligation to renew the licence.
