yes I take your point, and I'll now study comparatives re FGE and ANG, both of which I held a couple of years ago and sold well.

I assume your definition of ROE is based on the equity in latest a/cs. I look at return on investment which is earnings ps/SP; if it's >12 then I look to borrowing ratios and to gross dividend yield. I agree that the ROE based on balance sheet equity is a conventional measure of performance and efficiency in use of capital, so I should take note of it, particularly in comparative performance, so I'll have another look at that re other comparable companies.
