    I think it may be more to do with the fact that building Tier 4 is substantially more expensive than Tier 3 ... and with the already exorbitant cost of building in Darwin it would have been impossible to justify the cost.

    Whilst Tier 4 is highly regarded and indeed required by some clients, a vast majority of data centres in Australia will never come close to that level of reliance. There would be little demand for it in Darwin, so I am more than happy to see a rational design build with a reduced cost where justified.

    FYI, high redundancy data centres consider the mains supply as secondary with their on-site generators as primary. This is the case with all incoming services, so there is also large on-site storage capacity for water.
