Edge DC's, or DC's in 2nd, 3rd tier cities or regional locations don't really move the needle.
If you look at what Airtrunk has become in a very short amount of time, they are on a completely different trajectory.
If you look at it from the point of view that Cloud is eating up so much of the compute.
Then the overwhelming trend would be towards more commodity, hyper scale, efficient operations to drive the costs down.
NextDC has done really well in Sydney (despite neglecting it).
Melbourne also did really well at the time of M1, and then seemed to go off the boil.
