Interesting comments from CS today in the AFR.
"In the next six months NEXTDC is also looking to expand into regional centres, as part of an industry move toward “edge computing".“Eventually computer services will need to go closer to the user,” Mr Scroggie said.
“We’ll have edge facilities that we’ll deploy in smaller cities as we go, which is a maturing of the business. You edge out into smaller cities and build up a larger footprint.”
To me this seems similar to Bevan Slattery's recent comments on the new Hyperone project which makes specific mention of regional areas. Main points for me here are subsea cables will come into Australia via Perth, Sydney and Darwin. No Nextdc in Darwin, yet!
Sounds to me like BS and CS's grand future plan to build the best Fibre Network and Data Centre Infrastructure possible for the future of Australia with Nextdc expanding in to Darwin and Adelaide via the Hyperone proposed map. l like it!!
Thoughts??
