Just means sentiment has shifted direction IMO, so it’s an opportunity for those sitting on the sidelines waiting to enter or to top up to do so with less risk than if they had jumped in while sentiment was still deteriorating.
Sentiment, as you know, is an irrational beast. In the absence of any new catalyst, it is also an obstinate one. Long term investors with the skills to compute fundamentals can make money buying a stock that looks cheap on their metrics. But you can see on this chart that recently when they’ve done so, the SP has only got as far as the red diagonal line before traders have slapped it back down as supply has overwhelmed the exhausted demand. This has happened a few times and each time at a lower high. That’s sentiment for you. The likelihood is it will continue getting bought at lower lows but sold into at lower highs - that’s a downtrend. Until it changes. The point of the chart is to visually demonstrate that change just occurred. Even better, after it broke out, it had a bit of a think about the validity of the move, wondered if it was all a bit too much and it had got overexcited for no particular reason and retraced back to test that horizontal diagonal red line… you often see false breaks, so this was a well needed test of resolve. Fortunately, it survived the experience, so in my view the original breakout is reinforced by the backtest.
The point about the moving averages is in an uptrend, the shorter moving averages are above the longer term MAs and vice-versa in a downtrend. So when you see a ST MA cross above a longer term MA, then that’s a good indicator, a “golden cross” as opposed to a “death cross.” This moment for NXT is literally a crossroads, the point at which the risk of buying on a perceived discrepancy between the SP and value becomes less of a shot in the dark, with reduced risk that perfectly rational fundamentals will be obscured by the irrationality of sentiment. I hope, because as I am not an international hedge fund, I can’t do the fundamentals better than the market.![]()
