softening retrospectivity and other sweetners would just be icing on the cake compared to getting the threshold lifted to 11%.
However having said that, never ever underestimate the obstinacy of political figures esp in face of economically illiterate public apathy.
agreed no backdown from 40% to save face. Plus the 40% is the figure that is being bandied about in the public arena (you know the herald scum no economic knowledge encouraged news - yes encouraged to be retarded). I have yet to speak to a single non-investor who understands the RSTP as '40% kicks in after 6% profits' they just think 'oh miners doing well so make em pay more'. bless.
Why oh why did Kev not stealth this in instead of picking a very public fight and setting his stall out in a nice firm corner. Whatever happened to a quiet word to sound out what others are thinking, don't give too much away too early and presto you have maneuvering room.
